Raf Simons’ first campaign for Dior, S/S13.
Surreal, minimalist, breathtaking. Shot by Willy Vanderperre, Raf Simons’ debut campaign couldn’t be further away from John Galliano’s Dior-style. This clean cut shoot is like a much needed breath of fresh air. All hail King Raf for doing exactly what I hoped with the brand. J’adore.

Harry Rocks Jewellery
Not long ago, I stumbled across London based jewellery brand Harry Rocks on Twitter and duly declared my love for their Lucky Coin Necklace. Before I know it, lucky ol’ me receives a beautifully wrapped packaged from said brand with my very own necklace tucked up inside.
The Lucky Coin Necklace's vintage silver 3 pence English coin on a delicate gold plated chain perfectly sums up my love for fine jewellery whilst exuding tradition and style. Knowing that designer behind the brand - Laura Rowan - personally sources, designs and crafts each Harry Rocks piece truly makes the jewellery something to treasure.
Head to the Harry Rocks website where you can shop online, or visit Harvey Nichols where you can browse the brand in store.
Jessie J has firmly established her softer and more feminine look with a cover shoot for Elle UK. Captioned, ‘The Fashion Reinvention’, Jessie dons high fashion garments from designers including Elie Saab, Jean Paul Gaultier and Giles and is hardly recognisable from the brash, fringed crotch-grabbing sequin covered caricature that she emerged on the pop scene as (thank god).
Gracing Elle’s November cover - and shot by none other than Ian Rankin - in a stunning baroque body suit from Dolce and Gabanaa – she proves that her softer, more feminine side is who she’s become in recent years.
‘That really scary, spiky, cartoony kind of thing, that was me two or three years ago,’ she told Elle magazine.
‘Now, I’m definitely more embracing of myself as a woman and my sexuality and just being a bit more feminine.’ Whilst the singer and The Voice UK judge also confessed that her previous image was more to grab attention when emerging on the pop scene than who she was.
Regardless, this more elegant and feminine side of Jessie J is definitely one which should stick around and with her new stylist Cobbie Yates at the helm – Jessie parted ways with former stylist Karl Willet back in August – there shouldn’t be an issue.
Additional kudos goes to Elle UK for hyping up this cover – successfully making it one of the most anticipated covers of 2012. Their Twitter campaign peaked during the photoshoot with the #ELLEJessieJ hashtag trending in the UK as well as allowing fans to tweet their questions to Jessie, 10 of which will be answered in the upcoming issue.
The November issue is on sale from Wednesday 3rd October 2012 – tweet me your thoughts @CassGowing!
How to Wear Challenge – Autumn Edition: The Very Berry Trend
A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by Most Wanted, the lifestyle magazine from the UK’s #1 voucher site, VoucherCodes.co.uk inviting me to take part in their ‘How to Wear Challenge’.
Armed with a budget of £80, I was set to conquer the A/W12 Berry Trend. With a choice of rich reds to more vibrant purple tones - the berry trend is one of the most accessible ways to ease your wardrobe into Autumn/Winter this season. I’m talking a palette of succulent raspberries, juicy plums and sumptuous burgundies - I’m salivating just thinking about it…
Luxurious, opulent and definitively Autumnal, choose to embrace the trend whole-heartedly or mix it into your wardrobe with subtle berry accents.
Look One – a deliciously dark tailored berry look.
Forever 21’s woven raspberry shirt with curved collar detailing (£16.75), buttoned up and tucked into a lace embroiled skirt.
Look Two - coolly casual with a warm woollen jumper.
Topshop’s beautifully burgundy boucle jersey jumper (£26), bought two sizes larger to wear as a comfortable jumper-dress, teamed with thick black woollen tights and Primark’s berrilicous boots (£8).
Look Three – (everyone knows the easiest way to wear a trend is through…) Accessories.
H&M has an array of berry-toned accessorises to warm up any outfit, I opted for their belt with gold accents (£7.99), oversized bejewelled cocktail ring (£3.99) and large floppy hat with gold leaf detailing (£12.99). Wear with all black (as pictured) or with a monochrome outfit for ease. I completed the look with a cutesy sock-and-wedge combo thanks to Primark’s plum ankle socks (£2.50 for six).
Tweet me @cassgowing your thoughts of my #vcukhowtowear challenge!
Total spend £78.22. Items bought from Topshop, Primark, Forever 21 and H&M.

Chamilia UK - Designing delight.
Last month, I had the pleasure of visiting the gorgeous Push PR girlies at their office in Exmouth Market (who am I kidding, I’m always there drooling over their stunning showroom full of goodies) and I made a pit-stop at their Chamilia Creation Station.
As an indecisive gal, I thought I might have to settle in for the night as there’s an unlimited array of options… silver snap, silver twirl, plain, bangle, braided, leather - (and they’re just the bracelets!)
I chose a single black ebony leather band which I then adorned with the charms of my choice (I opted for the Lock, Hanging Peace Sign and Jewelled Cross charms which I then separated with the deliciously ornate Urban Links in Asphalt and Chrome).
Now I hate to sound clichéd (and like an advertisement for recycling) but the possibilities really are endless - I was able to design a bracelet which suited my personal style easily and effortlessly.
The downside? I’m now addicted to Chamilia charms.
The story of Ruxx Luxury Leather Backpacks and their satchel called Hannah.
This morning I popped into the Push PR London HQ to say hi to the girls and to design my own Chamilia bracelet (blog post to follow about that one…) and as I browsed their stunning showroom, I was stopped in my tracks by Ruxx’s Hannah Backpack. The black leather bag with patent trim and stud detailing is my ideal of satchel heaven.
As soon as I got back to my office, I had to see what Ruxx are all about. The label are British through and through (designed and produced in the UK through designer Sarah Ward-Hendry) whilst the ethos of designing luxury on-trend bags with the practicalities of being a backpack is something I just adore.
I wrote about the accessories trend of backpacks for SS12 back in May, but with Ruxx, I’ve found the one*. See for yourself http://www.ruxx.co.uk/
*And her name’s Hannah
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CASS GOWING FASHION
Yup my baby is two years old. It’s weird to look back at when I started this blog, I never could have imagined the opportunities that it would bring. I’d like to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who has ever supported this blog, I love you all very much.
Here’s to another 2 years hey?
Burberry’s #thanksamillion Twitter Campaign (an exceptional example of why I’m in love with Burberry…)
The label, which is now at 1,040,168 followers, is currently running a #thanksamillion promoted tweet to celebrate reaching a million followers on Twitter.
The brand clearly recognises the importance of social media and has innovatively used Twitter in the past (their Tweetwalk allowed Twitter followers to see the catwalk looks before they hit the runway) but the thing that really sets this campaign apart is the adorable ‘personal note’ that you receive from the brand if you tweet them your congratulations.
Did you tweet them? What do you think of the campaign?
Let me know @CassGowing
Vauxhall Fashion Scout Blog Contributors
I’ve been receiving a lot of emails asking for more information regarding the VFS Blog Contributors vacancy so thought it would be easier to write a post about it. As the Editor of the blog, I’m extreeeeeemely extremely extremely busy, therefore I am looking for to build the blogging team to help with the blog content.
This is an ongoing contributor role and I am looking for someone who can contribute (at least) two posts a week. Initially, topic of the posts will be emailed to you, however following the designers on different social media platforms is a brilliant way for you to find stories. This position is ongoing, meaning you will be working from home (although it would be great if, on occasion, you can accompany myself or the photographer to an event/designers showroom). To clarify, this is an unpaid contributor role, however it is an amazing opportunity to work for such an integral fashion platform and to gain more writing experience.
There are a few requirements you must have for this role:
- You must live in London
- You must have previous writing experience
- You must have a keen knowledge and interest in high fashion
- Basic editing skills are a plus
If you are interested in this role please send your CV and samples of your work (URLs are fine) to firstname.lastname@example.org
Any questions tweet me @CassGowing
I will be contacting applicants on Monday for an immediate start however I am always looking for talented contributors (especially during fashion week!)
Here’s an interview avec moi conducted by Personal Stylist in London.
“I am constantly amazed by the camaraderie which seems to exist amongst fashion bloggers. I am new to blogging and have only been doing it for about 6 months on and off at best! What amazes me is the community especially amongst fashion bloggers as well as availability of help and opportunities bloggers are willing to give each other.
We initially received a message from the editor of Vauxhall Fashion Scout Blog Cass, as we had previously written about the fabulous Baartmans & Siegel whom we love and see going very far. We were asked for an interview to be featured on the VFS which can be seen here.
If you had to explain what VFS is about, to your best friends, brother’s girlfriend’s next door neighbours 8 year old daughter what would you say?
Vauxhall Fashion Scout is a platform for emerging designers, showcasing every year Off Schedule during London Fashion Week. It showcases up and coming talent and gives them the publicity and opportunities they deserve. Any eight year old would probably have no idea what I’d just said, so I’d clarify – it’s the home to new fashion designers.
If someone were to make a movie about your life, who would be your choice to play you?
Chloë Sevigny – for her long blonde hair and for her quirky yet fashion forward, personal style. Plus, she’d make me seem a lot cooler than I actually am.
What is the most you have ever spent on an item of clothing?
I’m pretty thrifty when it comes to shopping – all my designer items are vintage. So probably only £150.
How many pair of shoes do you own?
About twenty; I’m a wear-a-pair-til-they-fall-apart kind of girl.
What is the most outrageous item in your wardrobe, when did you last wear it?
A gold Lamé, gathered dress – it doesn’t sound that bad when describing it but it makes me look like a Christmas tree decoration. Last wore it for the launch of Disappear Here magazine, back in ’08. Think it’s destined to stay at the bottom of my wardrobe forever.
Which bloggers do you follow?
Wolf Whistle, Style Crusader and Coco’s Tea Party are all personal favourites. Plus, my own blog www.cassgowingfashion.co.uk of course…
Madonna or Lady Gaga?
Madonna. But only because she was so iconic in the eighties, she should really give it up now.
What do you think of men’s fashion in London?
I love how eclectic it is, men in London aren’t afraid to push the boundaries of fashion. I love sharp tailoring with a modern day twist – E.Tautz designer and all round Saville Row gent Patrick Grant is a perfect example of this.
What is your view of the metrosexual man?
I think metrosexuality is great, as long as it’s not taken too far. I wouldn’t want to date a guy who has more fake tan on than me.
What should a man wear on a first date?
It really depends on the date, but something that communicates their style and personality without trying too hard. Good shoes are a must – I’m a sucker for some vintage kicks, besides, I know too many girls that would dismiss a guy purely based on shoes.
If you could have dinner with a famous person dead or alive who would it be?
Alexander McQueen, he’s one of my all-time favourite designers. We’d chat about the progression of his label since his passing and about his doggies.
Who do you turn to for fashion advice?
I’ll ask my housemates for advice, but rarely as our roles are normally the opposite. I’m everyone’s personal stylist; I will always offer them advice, keep them up to date with trends or dress them for an event “
Wheeeeee it’s the Jubileeeeeee.
The countdown to our Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations are official under way. Bunting is being hung, corgi’s are being preened and Pims are being prepped. If you haven’t already bagged your royal outfit for this weekend’s celebrations, you better hurry the (Prince) Harry up.
ASOS is my regal choice. Of course the site is renowned for being reliable, fast and fashion forward but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t swayed by the free DIY designer* crown.
RED: Staple Backless Halter Shirt Dress £56
WHITE: ASOS Sweetheart Neck Summer Dress £22
BLUE: LnA Ballet Dress £140
Let me know what you think of my choices and what you’ll be wearing by this weekend by tweeting me @CassGowing

Dell XPS 13…
One of the things which should make my blogging schedule a HELLUVA lot easier, is my brand spanking new (free) Dell XPS 13. I got a lovely email last week asking me if I would like to try the laptop that everyone is talking about. Of course, I agreed.
And the result? Well I think I’ve fallen in love. Smooth, slick, sexy, speedy - it’s everything a laptop should be.
I’ll be blogging and tweeting my reviews of the Dell XPS 13 in the future so keep an eye out.
